Cheok Chuan Sin is a Malaysian graduate student at the Graduate School of Education, Peking University, majoring in Educational Technology, and a member of the Lab of Learning Sciences. His research centers on game-based learning, with a particular interest in how game design principles and motivational mechanisms can enhance learner engagement and knowledge acquisition.
Cheok’s academic journey began at Xiamen University Malaysia, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature with honours. His undergraduate thesis and published research explored the effectiveness of educational card games in facilitating English vocabulary learning among primary school students, revealing significant improvements in learning outcomes and motivation.
Currently, his research continues to examine how gamification and learning sciences intersect to promote meaningful, joyful learning experiences. He also designs and develops educational card and board games, which integrates cultural elements and language learning objectives.
Cheok’s broader academic vision is to make learning a joyful experience for learners of all ages and backgrounds. Through his work, he aspires to contribute to the global advancement of educational technology by designing innovative, game-based systems that inspire curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning. He envisions a future where education is not a duty, but a delightful journey of discovery.
